Only a small crowd turned up on Saturday for the concert at James and Ethel Grey Park in Birdhaven, Johannesburg.
According to sources, there were only about 60 people at the event organised by the Kwela Tebza brothers Mpho, Tebogo and Tshepo Lerole.
Among the big names that performed were Gigi Lamayne, Tamara Dey, DJ Cndo and Babes Wodumo.
Speaking on behalf of the brothers, the event organiser known only as Bee, blamed the timing of the event and the fact that their company was new.
“This was a huge investment from the team. We had a phenomenal line-up. They say what you put in is what you get out, but unfortunately this wasn’t the case.
“We are new, so people probably went to events they’ve attended before. But we would like to say they should give us a chance. We are definitely going to do this again,” said Bee.
Bee refused to give her surname and wouldn’t say how much money they had lost on the event.
Gigi Lamayne said although the crowd was small, she still gave a good performance.
“I bet if there was an all male line-up there would have been a bigger crowd. The organisers must also consider a venue ekasi to reach the people,” she said.
Khanyi Mbau was set to perform with a live band, but ended up only acting as MC because she didn’t have all her dancers.
A source who attended said the show started late and ended at 10pm, before everyone had performed. However, another source said the set-up, stage and sound were amazing.
