The outspoken ANCYL member has even suggested a new list of leaders to step in and improve matters in the ANC’s national executive committee.
Outspoken ANC Youth League (ANCYL) member Mcebo Dlamini has called for the dissolving of the ANC national executive committee (NEC), which he says has failed to hold President Jacob Zuma in to account.
This follows the ANCYL’s call for an early elective conference after the mother body performed poorly in the local government elections. Dlamini made it clear he was speaking in his personal capacity.
Dlamini says the NEC is filled with mere Zuma praise singers who can’t hold him to account because they “eat together” and therefore “they must go”. He says they failed to hold Zuma to account on the Nkandla matter, in which he believes they could have just paid back the money. He alleges they “defended the indefensible” on the Nkandla matter and called for the sacking of Zuma after the ANC lost significant support under his leadership.
“We are calling for Zuma’s head in principle because he’s the general of the ship.”
Zuma engaged in a protracted battle over whether the public protector’s recommendations on Nkandla were legally binding. In one much-criticised parliamentary session, Zuma said: “The public protector made recommendations. The recommendations are recommendations, subject to be taken or not to be taken.”
After the DA and EFF took the matter to the Constitutional Court, Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng ruled that Zuma had failed to uphold, defend, and respect the constitution as the supreme law of the land.
“They [the NEC] are scared of taking Zuma into [sic] account because they eat with him,” wrote Dlamini, who added there were other issues where Zuma had escaped accountability, including Marikana, Guptagate and the issue of free education.
“44 something people died [at Marikana] and no one was held accountable. They failed to debate the issue of free education.
“The ANC NEC are doing their own selfish things. The whole NEC must be dissolved because they failed to represent what the ANC stands for.
Dlamini also tabled his preferred list of candidates to steer the ship at the top of the party: He named Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, as well Joel Netitshendze, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, former Johannesburg mayor Parks Tau, former Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni, Thoko Didiza, Thandi Modise, Fraser Moloketi, Naledi Pandor, Senzo Mchunu, Vuyiswa Tulelo “and maybe” (according to him) Rob Davis.
