NIKIWE Shabangu desperately needed a job, so when a rich-looking man offered her a clerical job at the municipality, she jumped at the opportunity.
After all, the man who offered her the job drove a big red Range Rover and was as snappily dressed as a director at a municipality would be.
But he was a conman who has now vanished with R2 500 of Nikiwe’s money.
Nikiwe (29), from Mangweni near Malalane in Mpumalanga, said since she didn’t have a computer literacy qualification, which the man said was a requirement for the post, she would have to cough up R2 500 to smooth her way.
“I was excited when this man who called himself Mr Mabuza called and said he worked as a director at the municipality. He said a clerk’s position had just become vacant.”
But Nikiwe and her cousin Anita Shabangu (25) went to the Nkomazi Municipality and were told there was no such person at the municipality. They also found out that Nikiwe was not the first victim.
Nkomazi spokesman Cyril Ripinga warned people to report offers of jobs for cash to the police.
