It may be unlikely to happen‚ but Premier Soccer League (PSL) newcomers Baroka FC have made a plea to former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar to join the Limpopo-based side in their debut season in the big league.
Baroka‚ who have upset a number of established PSL sides in cup competitions‚ are known to be a side that aims high.
Pienaar was a guest on Monday at the announcement of a sponsorship extension for the club with Clover.
The former Ajax Amsterdam and Everton midfielder has been linked with a move to a number of top PSL clubs‚ with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs said to be the front-runners for his signature.
Pienaar has not made a decision on his next move‚ but it is believed he will be making his final decision over the next few weeks.
In the meantime‚ the PSL newbies‚ through their chairman Khurishi Mphahlele made an informal plea to the player to join Baroka.
“Money’s not an issue‚ come join us‚” was the chairman’s attempt to lure him to Lebowakgomo.
“You’ll make be making a contribution to the country. People will know that you did not go for money.
“Please make up your mind and come join us. You need us as much as we need you.”
The club has had Clover as their sponsor since 2013 and on Monday affirmed that they had signed an extension for the next three years with the option of extending it further.
Baroka will travel to Zimbabwe for two weeks of their pre-season training.
