Uneven skin tone is a familiar skincare concern which many think is only caused by sunburn.

But experts say air pollution, bacteria, dirt, and excess oil also help leave skin dull and uneven.

Uneven skin tone comes in a form of age spots, sun spots, freckles or acne scarring, which can be frustrating to deal with and difficult to get rid of.

Winter is the ideal time to treat these skincare concerns as the skin is less exposed to the sun.

Dettol shared with SunHealth tips on how to treat your uneven tone skin this winter for a clearer complexion:

Drink lots of water
Drinking enough water on a daily basis is good for your health. But where the skin is concerned, keeping it well hydrated minimises the appearance of wrinkles, prevents tightness and dryness, leaving radiant, healthy and younger-looking skin.

Protect your skin
Sun damage is one of the major causes of an uneven skin tone and this is why it’s always important to wear sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 in order to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
Sunscreen should be applied on a daily basis and this includes cloudy days because 80% of the sun’s radiation penetrates cloud cover, which means your skin can still be exposed to sun damage even when it’s overcast, grey and rainy.

Exercise regularly
Regular physical activity is not just effective for losing weight but also very beneficial in restoring vitality to your skin. So choose an activity that you enjoy and make it part of your daily routine.
If you sweat during a workout, be sure to wash your face to unclog your skin’s pores of dirt and oil with an antibacterial soap like the Dettol Even Tone soap which is specially formulated to remove excess oil and dirt from the skin.

Eat healthy
Skin impurities may by due to digestive and diet problems. Good health starts with good nutrition, so eat plenty of healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains as part of your routine to get healthy, glowing skin all over your body.
