FORMER Afrotainment club DJ Twitty is playing hide and seek with his former landlord.
Twitty, whose real name is Philani Khuzwayo, has been accused of owing over R10 000 in rent.
According to Durban businessman and flat owner Anup Rampiar, the trouble started when he told Twitty he had to move out.
“For most of the year the rent was paid on time. When the contract had to be renewed last year he took full responsibility for the lease because his relationship had ended.”
Anup said Twitty started missing payments and was given final notice to move out in January.
According to Anup, when Twitty eventually moved out he left the place in a mess and owed him R10 551 for damage and unpaid rent. He said although he took Twitty to a Small Claims Court in March and won, the DJ had still not paid him, and was not replying to messages on WhatsApp.
Twitty claimed he rented the flat through an estate agent called Ernest and never dealt with the owner until about six months before he moved out.
“It was rare to deal with the owner so when Anup contacted me I was a bit suspicious. He told me Ernest had gone missing. I tried contacting him myself with no success.”
He said he didn’t pay his last month of rent because he wasn’t sure he’d get his deposit back.
“When I get my deposit back I will give him his money.”
He said he had blocked Anup on WhatsApp because he was harassing him, adding that he didn’t remember leaving the flat in a mess.
