A new WhatsApp scam that plays on users’ sympathy is doing the rounds.
Beggars in the UAE have started using WhatsApp to ask people for money, 7Days reported.
According to the report, a woman complained she received several calls from a UAE number with the caller asking for financial help.
The caller claimed that he was facing financial problems and could not afford to provide food for his family.
After telling the man she was unable to help, the woman received WhatsApp messages from a different phone number.
These messages included banking details to which the woman could transfer money.
Abu Dhabi police said people should be wary of beggars who send sob stories to countless WhatsApp users, hoping that someone will send them money.
