A THIEF allegedly woke up at the crack of dawn yesterday and went to steal, as she does most days.
But this time she was caught red-handed – stealing taps from a house in J section, KwaMashu, north of Durban.
Residents also accused her of stealing plasma TVs in the area and she was allegedly beaten.
The 21-year-old thief told Daily Sun that she admitted to residents that she only stole taps, which she sold at a nearby scrapyard, the residents continued to accuse her of stealing plasmas.
“While they were beating me, they asked me to tell them who steals plasmas in the area because several houses had lost TVs.
“I was confused and I told them about a guy I smoke with,” she said.
The angry residents headed to the man’s house.
They took him while he was sleeping with his girlfriend and started beating him.
There was chaos when a group of about ten of his friends saw their friend being beaten and intervened.
Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said residents should not take the law into their own hands.
“People should call the police when they see criminals,” said Zwane.
