One person died and 11 others were injured, some critically, when a minibus taxi believed to be transporting matric pupils from their dance in the early hours of Sunday morning overturned on the M3 at Paradise Road in Claremont, Cape Town, Western Cape paramedics said.
“Sadly one patient died and 11 sustained injuries ranging from moderate to critical,” ER24 spokeswoman Chitra Bodasing said.
ER24, Life Healthcare, Cape Town metro, fire and rescue, and other services attended to the accident, she said.
“Upon arrival they found the taxi on its roof. Patients were scattered across the scene. Sadly, upon assessment of one of them found on the road it was found that he sustained fatal injuries.”
One of the patients attended to by ER24 paramedics was a man believed to be in his 30s or 40s who was in a critical condition. He was treated and transported to Groote Schuur Hospital. Four other patients were also transported to Victoria Hospital. The rest of the patients were transported to hospital by other services.
The cause of the accident was unknown and local authorities were investigating, Bodasing said.
