JEFFREY Dlamini owed money to different mashonisas and he would hide under his bed or in his wardrobe whenever they knocked on his door.

Some even threatened to kill him, but Jeffrey decided to take his own life before they could.

The 37-year-old from Duduza, Ekurhuleni was found hanging from the rafters of his home last Sunday.

His devastated sister, Regina (45), said Jeffrey had led a difficult life.

“He used to hide himself from the mashonisas when they knocked on the door.

“I told him to stop burdening himself with debt, but he would not listen. He has hurt us,” she said.

Regina said Jeffrey earned only R3 000 a month, but he owed more than R30 000.

“All his pay went to mashonisas. He would show me his salary when he got paid and divide it to pay his debts. He would then be left with nothing,” she said.

“He would borrow again to survive until month end. He had a hard life, but it is unacceptable that he killed himself.”

An inquest docket was opened at Duduza Police Station.
