Johannesburg – Chaos has erupted in Tembisa where EFF leader Julius Malema and his supporters were pelted with rocks and stopped from campaigning at the Sethokga hostel.
The hostel is a hot spot where two EFF supporters were fatally assaulted in May. Malema earlier visited their families to offer support and condolences.
At the hostel sjambok wielding men blocked Malema’s way and vowed to assault him up if he entered. A defiant Malema went in however, and was pelted with rocks, while some of his supporters were chased and assaulted as police fired rubber bullets and live ammunition into the air to prevent further chaos.
Malema was eventually forced to abandon campaigning in the area after protracted negotiations with police failed to yield a compromise with protesters.
