EFF MEMBERS were busy with preparations for Julius Malema’s visit to their kasi on Friday.
But they heard that there were drunk people blocking the road where the meeting was going to be held with burning tyres.
When they went to speak to the people who were causing the chaos, one of the EFF members was allegedly stabbed with a broken bottle.
The incident happened at Intabazwe kasi, near Harrismith, on Friday few hours before the arrival of Malema
The stabbed victim, Phumelele Khanye (34), said: “They asked me why we had brought Malema to our kasi and said they did not want to see him.
“When one of them attacked me with a broken beer bottle the others were singing Boso ke mang.
“Some of them said they were teaching me a lesson I would never forget.
“I thought I could speak to them but now I have realised that I committed a terrible mistake.
The boy who stabbed me on the cheek was very aggressive.
“I was very scared and thought I was going to die right there.”
Phumelele said the boy ran away with his friends after stabbing her.
She said her fellow party members managed to take her to hospital for treatment.
Police spokesman Sergeant Christopher Mophiring said they were aware of the incident.
Mophiring said the police have opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and are busy with the investigation
Free State EFF spokeswoman Mandisa Mageseni said they were aware of the matter.
She said the injured woman was a prominent member of the party.
Mageseni said they were very disappointed by the incident.
