THE Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association is R500 000 richer, while the ANC Women’s and Youth leagues each have an extra R1 million!
This is thanks to the generosity of billionaire businessman Robert Gumede, who on Monday donated to the ANC organisations at the party’s headquarters in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
The Congress of SA Trade Unions, the South African National Civic Organisation and the South African Communist Party also received R500 000 each from Gumede.
However, the biggest winner was the main body of the ANC. Gumede donated R3 million, four 22-seater buses, six Ford Ranger bakkies and one Hyundai i10 to the party.
“This is to ensure the party is able to lead our people and receives 90% of the votes in the upcoming local government elections,” said Gumede.
He went on to shower Premier David Mabuza with praise. Speaking of Mabuza, he said: “Because of your leadership, we now have the University of Mpumalanga, which we are very proud of. We have seen stability and unity in the province, which has not been here for a long time.”
Gumede said the ruling party made him the person he is today.
Mabuza said the donations and support were highly appreciated.
“Gumede worked for this money. He has decided to give it away as a gift to the movement that gave him freedom.”
